Coronavirus First Positive Case in TamilNadu – Patient in Chennai RGGGH

Chennai: A 45-year-old man based from Kancheepuram has recently returned to India from Oman, was tested positive for Coronavirus on saturday (7th March, 2020) and the first person in Tamil Nadu to have the disease. He is currently admitted and then moved to isolated ward in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.

Initially, his symptoms included fever and cough slowly he started struggling to breathe the doctor he consulted referred to a hospital in RGGGH in Chennai. When the problem continues to exist, he was moved to the isolation ward in the RGGGH on Wednesday. His samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for testing soon after and the results were received on Saturday (7th March, 2020).

It is to be noted that his family member (8 people) are been under observation, Official from Health Department said that the samples will be soon collected from his family members for testing.

On Friday (6th March, 2020), Health Minister C Vijayabaskar spoked about the possibilites of Coronavirus in Tamil Nady. He also said that precautionery measures have been taken and also there are 300 beds with a seperate isolation ward is ready across the state, and they can be increased if needed.

The total number of people who have tested positive in India stands at 34 now with two others being reported as positive in Ladakh on Saturday..
