Who is Nirmala Sitharaman?

Nirmala Sitharaman is an Indian politician, currently serving as the Defence Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman is the first woman to serve as Defence Minister independently. Before, Sitharaman was in a position of Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and the Minister for Commerce and Industry, she was the independent charge of the department.

Nirmala Sitharaman has also acted as a national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party. When BJP came to power in 2014, she was first allotted a Rajya Sabha seat, from Andhra Pradesh. Currently, she is elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

History of Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman was from Tamil Nadu, she was born in Madurai was from a pure Tamil family. Her dad, Narayanan Sitaraman, hailed from Musiri (taluk), Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu, while her mom’s family was from Thirvenkadu (taluk), Salem district. Since her dad worked in the Indian Railways, she spent her childhood in different parts of the state. She studied her schooling in Madras and Tiruchirappalli. She finished her Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics degree at Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College, Tiruchirapalli, and her post graduation at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

After her completing her studies Sitharaman, served at Pricewaterhouse Coopers as a Senior Manager and later for the BBC World Service.

She is one of the establishing executives of Pranava school in Hyderabad. She was formerly a member of National Commission for Women.

Political Life

Nirmala Sitharaman joined Narendra Modi’s party in May 2014. Before that, she was functioning as a part in a team of six spokespersons headed by Ravi Shankar Prasad, for Bharatiya Janata Party .

She joined the BJP in 2006 even as her better half Dr. Parakala Prabhakar joined the Prajarajyam party glided by filmstar Chiranjeevi in 2007. In the mid 2000s, Dr Prabhakar was the representative of the Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP. In the interim, Nirmala was gradually picking up in ubiquity in the BJP. It was amid Nitin Gadkari’s residency as BJP president that Nirmala Sitharaman was enrolled as one of the six party spokespersons in March 2010. From that point forward, she has been a standard on the news TV channels representing BJP and its pioneers including Narendra Modi. Strangely, as gathering representative, she turned out to be very prevalent in the Modi-ruled Gujarat than in Delhi, where the BJP home office is found.

As a visible spokesperson of the BJP, Nirmala played an important role in the run up to the 2014 elections by effectively projecting the Modi-for-PM message. At last, in 2014, the BJP won by a surprising margin in the general decisions and went ahead to frame the focal government.

On May 26 2014, Nirmala Sitharaman was confirmed as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and additionally a Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs which fall under the Ministry of Finance headed by Arun Jaitley. She Contested and won a by-decision to the Rajya Sabha from the territory of Andhra Pradesh.

On 29 May 2016, she was one among the 12 competitors named by the BJP to challenge the Rajya Sabha decisions due on 11 June 2016. She effectively challenged the decisions from Karnataka. On 3 September 2017 she was hoisted to second female Defense Minister of India.

Personal Life

She met her better half, Parakala Prabhakar, a Telugu individual Andhraite from Narsapuram, Andhra Pradesh while examining in the Jawaharlal Nehru University. While Nirmala inclined towards the BJP, her better half was from an expert Congress family. Her relative was a Congress MLA in Andhra Pradesh, while her dad in-law was a Minister in the Andhra Pradesh Congress Govt in 1970s.

In 1991, Nirmala and her better half came back to India from the UK and moved to Narsapuram in the seaside Andhra Pradesh; Nirmala, who was expecting her first youngster, later moved to Chennai for conveyance. She stalled out in the healing center for over seven days on account of the distress activated by the death of Rajiv Gandhi in May 1991. Afterward, honored with a little girl, the family made Hyderabad their home.
