World’s First Coronovirus Reinfection Confirmed in Hong Kong
The Coronavirus is spreading rapidly in every place of the world, it has almost infected 23.7 million people and the count gets increasing day by day. On the other side 814,000 people has passed away due to this infection. As a relief to this 15.4 million people have been recovered from the virus and came back to their routine and were believing that they have immunity to fight the Novel Coronavirus.
But the new study has confirmed that patients recovering from Covid-19 should also continue to be cautious and they should continue to wear mask and maintain social distancing to prevent catching the virus again. So everyone has to be very cautious until a vaccine is found.
World’s first documented case of Coronavirus Reinfection
Researchers from the University of Hong Kong have proved that a man has infected by Covid-19 for the second time.
A 33 years IT – worker has recovered from Covid-19 and discharged from the hospital in April. The same person has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus after returning from Spain earlier this month.
Researchers were first unsure that if the person was completely cured the virus from his previous infection. However, the Hong Kong researchers said genetic sequencing showed the virus samples affected to him on April and August were completely different. The study has been accepted by the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal, the researchers said.
“Many believe that recovered Covid-19 patients have immunity against re-infection because most developed a serum neutralizing antibody response. However, there is evidence that some patients have waning antibody level after a few months,” said the researchers.
Additionally they said “Our findings suggest that the SARS-CoV-2 may persist in the global human population as is the case for other common cold-associated human coronaviruses, even if patients have acquired immunity via natural infection,”.
As a final conclusion people recovering from Coronavirus should also maintain Social distancing and also should wear mask.
