Featuring Amir Khan and produced by Amir and his wife, it is the kind of movie we expect from Walt Disney studios. And the kind of movie Rajshri Films should be making. It is a really heartwarming wholesome entertainer.
The story is not new nor it is unique. It is simply narrated with acting and dialogues that make it immensely believable. It is the story of a teenage girl from a typical Indian small city and She is the daughter of an engineer. Her father, an engineer about to immigrate to Saudi Arabia, is a tyrant and a wife beater.
He treats his wife worse than most of us would treat an animal. He mostly ignores his daughter but occasionally punishes her in sadistic ways. He seems to dote on his son. He is an immensely hatable character. As an actor, Raj Arun is absolutely brilliantly believable. After seeing him in a couple of scenes, I wanted to take a cricket bat to his head.
The mother is played by Meher Vij, a tall, slim and gorgeous version of Farida Jalal. I remember Meher as the mother of the missing girl in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Meher should make sure she does not get typecast. She is far too good looking and talented to be wasted on character roles. The main character is played by Zaira Wasim, the younger daughter and champion wrestler in Amir Khan’s last movie – DANGAL. She is absolutely adorable. And a marvellous actor! Zaria is very cute and such a natural performer.
I foresee a huge future for her in Bollywood. She certainly has the talent and the right kind of people to back her. And what about the boy who is in love with Zaira Wasim? His name in the film is Chintan Parekh. In real life, he is Tirth Sharma. He is very cute and natural.
“Amir Khan” What a brilliant actor he is! His performance in this movie is absolutely masterclass! What an actor! Who knew that this skinny short kid who lied about being married at the time of his debut, would turn into such a powerful actor. He is a phenomenon. His choice of cinema, his acting skills, the way he allows other actors to perform at their best without butchering their performance at the editing table.
All this points out to Amir’s talent and exemplary self belief. The dialogues in this movie are superb like more than once, the audience cracked up while seeing the movie.
The director, Advait Chandan is absolutely fabulous! He really is a master! The script gives him sparse victuals but he constructs a gourmet meal out of it.
The movie is at once funny, loveable, well made, well directed, extremely well acted and nicely shot.
Our Rating: 3.8/5
